Fredericton International Airport, in its desire to improve the critical daily airfield inspection process and support their Safety Management System (SMS) obligations to Transport Canada, has chosen the AIROps™ Airfield Inspection and Reporting system manufactured and supported by Eagle Integrated Solutions, from Campbellford, Ontario.
“The ability to record, transfer, store and most importantly, analyze the data we are collecting everyday, was simply not possible with the traditional paper based approach we used for so many years,” says Airport Director of Operations, Andrew Leeming. “We reviewed this AIROps™ system back in the fall in 2005, used the system during an evaluation period for much of 2006, and felt it was a very worthwhile purchase.”
Canadian airports are currently working towards compliance with the SMS program implemented by Transport Canada. A major part of the SMS program is demonstrating due diligence with respect to airfield operations, including noting areas for improvement and being able to demonstrate that these issues were addressed in the required manner and timeframe.
“This program helps ensure that we all understand what is happening on the airfield, and what is being done about each and every issue. We feel much more ‘in control’ now than we ever have, ” suggests Leeming.
